Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer among women in this country other than skin cancer. The lifetime likelihood of developing breast cancer for an American woman is 1 in 8. Annually, more than 210, 000 women learn they have the disease. About 1,300 men are diagnosed with breast cancer each year as well.
Over the past two decades, the number of breast cancer diagnoses has been on the rise. However, due to earlier detection and more effective treatments the number of people dying from breast cancer is declining.
