Commission on Cancer Approved Community Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Program:

In 1998, the St. Patrick Hospital Cancer Program was granted approval by the American College of Surgeons and the Commission on Cancer as a Community Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Program.

The process towards approval began in 1993 with the formation of the Cancer Committee. That same year the Cancer Registry was established and in 1995 weekly Tumor Board conferences began.

Approval by the CoC is granted only to those facilities that have voluntarily committed to provide the best in cancer diagnosis and treatment and are able to comply with established CoC standards. Each cancer program must undergo a rigorous evaluation and review of its performance and compliance with the CoC standards.

To maintain approval, facilities with approved cancer programs must undergo an on-site visit every 3 yrs.

There are currently more than 1,400 CoC-approved cancer programs in the United States & Puerto Rico, representing close to 25% of all hospitals
