Full-field digital mammograms or FFDM is similar to a standard mammogram except the images are digitally recorded. This allows the radiologist and other doctors to enhance the images, change the view, highlight and enlarge certain areas of the mammogram for more detailed observation and much more. These images can also be transmitted digitally to other doctors for second opinions or just to your family doctor so that a copy can be placed on your file for future reference. This method of storage is more expensive than the standard x-ray image type mammogram, but as technology advances the cost of the digital storage decreases.
