About Our Lady of the Lake's Cancer Center
Our Lady of the Lake (OLOL), has created a comprehensive cancer center that offers patients the convenience of receiving high-quality, advanced medical treatment and care in one location, close to home.

From diagnosis to outpatient follow-up care, the combined resources include chemotherapy, hormonal therapy, radiation therapy, immune therapy, peripheral stem cell transplant, clinical trials and clinical research.

Utilizing a multidisciplinary approach to cancer treatment, our team of physicians, nurses, dietitians, social workers, clergy members and other medical professionals coordinate their efforts to provide the best possible outcome for each patient.

Our Lady of the Lake Cancer Center and Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center: A Comprehensive Cancer Program

The Cancer Program of Our Lady of the Lake and Mary Bird Perkins Selected for Prestigious National Cancer Institute Pilot Program. Together, Our Lady of the Lake Cancer Center and Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center coordinate the entire continuum of cancer care. Surgical and medical treatment for cancer is available at OLOL Cancer Center and radiation treatment is available at Mary Bird Perkins. Our comprehensive cancer program has been accredited since 1992 by the American College of Surgeons – the gold standard for outstanding cancer programs. For over a century combined, we have delivered -- with compassion and excellence -- the most advanced patient care available to Louisiana citizens.

The program recently earned a three-year approval with commendation from the American College of Surgeons (ACoS) Commission on Cancer (CoC). Only 25% of all cancer programs across the United States and Puerto Rico earn this approval.

Approval is given only to those facilities that have voluntarily committed to provide the highest level of quality cancer care and undergo a rigorous evaluation process. After an on-site visit by a physician surveyor, the Cancer Program of Our Lady of the Lake and Mary Bird Perkins had zero deficiencies and earned approval with eleven total commendations.

Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center is the most comprehensive and experienced radiation therapy treatment center in Louisiana and offers the most advanced radiation therapy available in the world including IMRT, advanced IGRT through BrainLAB Novalis and the TomoTherapy HI-ART system, stereotactic radiosurgery, adaptive radiotherapy and 4-D CT tumor localization.

Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center has an exclusive research partnership with Louisiana State University to discover new cancer treatments, enabling the Center to attract the brightest minds in cancer treatment to Baton Rouge.

Our Lady of the Lake Cancer Center works closely with Mary Bird Perkins’ C.A.R.E. Network to provide free, cancer screening programs throughout the year in various areas, including breast, prostate, skin and colorectal cancer screenings. Regional screening events provide diagnostic and educational services to underserved and uninsured populations throughout a 15 parish service area.

Together, Mary Bird Perkins and Our Lady of the Lake offer patients the most advanced comprehensive cancer program in the region with a steadfast dedication to finding cancer and fighting it with our extensive resources and unique clinical expertise.

We are proving daily that area residents don’t have to leave family and friends behind to find innovative, world-class treatment. They can chose a phenomenal cancer fighting team right in their own backyard.

OUR SERVICES

Inpatient Care
If the patient’s condition or treatment warrants a hospital stay, OLOL’s inpatient unit is staffed by healthcare professionals who specialize in all aspects of cancer care.

OLOL’s Cancer Center also includes an Oncology Special Care Unit (OSCU). This unit was designed to care for peripheral stem cell transplant patients, high dose immunotherapy patients and patients receiving treatments that require their care to be delivered in a highly controlled environment. The peripheral stem cell transplant program is accredited by the Foundation for Accreditation of Cellular Therapy. OSCU features cardiac monitoring equipment and complex care capabilities for acutely ill patients.

Boosting your body’s immune system with Interleukin-2.

Today, immunotherapy is now regarded as a fourth major method of cancer treatment, joining surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. This highly advanced and specialized option helps the cells in your own immune system become more effective against cancer, and Our Lady of the Lake Cancer Center is pleased to offer Interleukin-2 immunotherapy to eligible patients.
