The UAMS Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute Breast Center has some of the most advanced technology available in the country and offers all forms of breast imaging, including the following:
Both diagnostic and screening mammograms with computer aided detection (CAD)
Ductograms
Breast ultrasound
Needle localization
Cyst aspiration
Core biopsy (both stereotactic and ultrasound guided)
We are an all-digital mammography center with the only dedicated breast MRI unit in central Arkansas. Digital mammography has been proven to be superior to conventional mammography in the diagnosis of small breast cancers, particularly in women under 50 and those with dense breasts. And all diagnostic patients receive the results of their tests before leaving the Center.
Computer Aided Detection (CAD) technology is used as a "second look" at the original mammogram, with suspicious areas highlighted for the radiologist to review. CAD technology has been proven to increase the accuracy of mammography.
UAMS has assembled a Breast Teamâ„¢ of some of the most respected physicians and health care professionals in the nation, experts who specialize in diagnosing and fighting breast cancer. This team consists of breast surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists and plastic surgeons. All surgical and complicated cases are discussed with this group at a weekly multi-disciplinary breast conference. It's called TeamTreatment.
The medical director of the Center is Robert L. Fincher, M.D. Dr. Fincher pioneered virtually every breast imaging procedure in Arkansas, including both stereotactic and ultrasound guided core biopsy. He was in private practice in Little Rock for 28 years and developed the breast imaging program for Baptist Breast Center where he served as medical director. Dr. Fincher has interpreted over 150,000 mammograms and performed over 15,000 breast ultrasounds, 8,000 needle localizations and 5,000 core biopsies.
