Breast Center at Moores UCSD Cancer Center Receives National Accreditation

The Breast Center at the Moores UCSD Cancer Center has received accreditation from the National Accreditation Program of Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program administered by the American College of Surgeons. The Breast Center at the Moores UCSD Cancer Center is the first hospital-based program in California to receive this accreditation.

According to the NAPBC, this recognition – which is for three years and is considered “full accreditation” – is given only to those centers that “provide the highest level of quality breast care and that undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of their performance.”

The NAPBC review includes such areas as leadership, clinical management, research, community outreach, professional education and quality improvement. In all, the Cancer Center's Breast Center met all 27 standards set by the NAPBC.

“The accreditation from such an important organization only underscores the high level of expertise and commitment from our doctors, nurses and staff at the Moores Cancer Center,” said Anne Wallace, MD, professor of clinical surgery at the UC San Diego School of Medicine and Director of the Breast Center at the Moores UCSD Cancer Center. “All of us share in this recognition.”

“It's an extraordinary honor to be recognized by a national medical organization for our exceptional work and continued dedication to our patients,” said Barbara Parker, MD, professor of clinical medicine at the UC San Diego School of Medicine and medical director of oncology services at the Moores UCSD Cancer Center.

The NAPBC is a consortium of professional organizations dedicated to improving quality of care and monitoring outcomes of patients with breast disease and breast cancer.
